Our Mission

We are committed to high quality care and Early Childhood Education for all children.  We believe in healthy development and constructive education.  We are an equal opportunity provider of child care.  We believe we can make a difference in any child’s life, regardless of their ethnic, religious or cultural background. We believe that all children can learn and be successful in the classroom. We believe child-centered education and active learning works and will work for every child.

History Of The Program

Joy worked in the children’s ministry for years.  She noticed how children would recognize her and call her name in grocery stores, restaurants, and malls.  She loved children and had three children of her own Jaydan, Kandon, and Julia.  When her daughter Julia died of meningitis back in 1996 she was heartbroken.  Several years later she decided to quit the hauling business and go back to school.  The only available courses that summer were Early Childhood.  She enrolled in several classes and enjoyed learning about the theorist.   Her husband Victor supported and helped her work toward her goal of opening an In-Home Childcare Program.  Joy Parks started JOYLAND Day Care in April 2004.  Joy uses her tribulations as fuel to propel her to the next level.  She believes that all children are capable of learning.

The staff here at JoyLand is committed to high quality education for all children. We believe in healthy development and constructive education. Our mission is to provide professional early childhood education to children regardless of their race, color, religious creed, handicap, ancestry, national origin, age or sex.

STAR RATED LICENSE AND RATIOS

North Carolina has a 1 to 5 star rating for its child care facilities. JoyLand is a 5 star family child care home. We strive to meet and exceed the expectations of parents and state guidelines. It has been proven that lower ratios have a direct effect on the quality of childcare. It enables teachers to spend individual time with and support all children. In a response to these findings, we strive to meet and/or exceed NC requirements for staff-to-child ratios for home childcare facilities.

History of the Program

Joy Parks has been married to her husband Victor Parks for 29 years.  She loves children and have three children of her own Jaydan, Kandon, and Julia (deceased).  When her daughter Julia died of meningitis in 1996 Joy was heartbroken.  Joy served as a Sunday school teacher for several years.  Children began to recognize her at grocery stores, restaurants, malls, etc.  Her husband Victor encouraged and supported her decision to return to college.  Joy took a leap of faith and started Joyland Home Daycare on August 3, 2004 (Now Joyland Academy).  She truly believes that all children are capable of learning.  Her husband Victor serves as an inspiration because in spite of his disability of being partially blind and deaf he taught their daughter Julia to write at the young age of four.  Joy received a diploma in Medical Assisting back in 1991 and wanted to further her education.  She used her tribulations as fuel to stay the course and obtain her Associate in Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education in 2009.  Joy received her Bachelor in Educational Studies on May 17, 2014.  She operates Joyland Academy with the help of her gifted and creative mother Barbara Adams.  Barbara is a Teacher in the program and is known by the children as “Grandma Barb”.  She is currently attending Central Piedmont Community College and will receive her Associate’s degree in 2019.
